About

Joel Fitzgerald was born and raised on the Northern Beaches of New South Wales Australia.  He grew up in the Hot Buttered shaping bay ran by his father Terry Fitzgearld an learned to surf at  North Narrabeen along side his brothers.

After traveling the world surfing on the professional tour with a career spanning over 20 years, Joel now enjoys shaping surfboards and exploring new waves. Joel is known amongst  his respected peers and fellow shapers as an innovator and talented surfboard craftsman.  He is an ambassador for Deus Ex Machina and shapes in Byron Bay, where he lives with his wife and surfing companion  Chrystal Fitzgerald.

Each board is hand crafted by Joel for your enjoyment. He can help you decide which Board is right for you, an is always happy to have a chat.

  1. Hi Joel,

    Loving the look of your boards mate. I’ve been thinking of getting a single fin log for a cruiser when the waves are small for a while. Having been a shortboarder rather than a longboarder I would love some advice. From what I can gather I’m after something in the 9’4″ to 9’6″ area to be able to ride the nose. How much is a custom worth and is there much difference for colour? Loving that resign dye stuff!
